I’d say splitting the ground then closing it back up to crush your opponents take too much force and time to execute. From the cartoon series we can see that characters doing big/powerful earth bending grimacing from their efforts. And it makes sense because in order to move an immovable object you need a lot of force. But all of this is the direct opposite of Toph’s earth bending principle.

I do believe that Jun Mochizuki stories just inherently feel like... all right, we've set up a lot, now more things need to happen? From my experience trying to introduce Pandora Hearts to people, I've always found myself saying things like 'you gotta read quite a bit into it to really get into it' and although VNC does differ from PH a LOT perhaps they have this vibe in common. I do always have to say that the way she writes is SO worth the time getting into the payoff of things.

It's honestly impressive how beloved the korra series still is for many viewers despite how much was stacked against it. What really boggles my mind is why Nickelodeon didn't put more faith into them... like this team brought us ATLA, a massively popular and still highly regarded show that its still getting adaptations YEARS laters.
